Exceed Fitness: The Upper East Side’s new fitness playground

1 of 8
Exceed Fitness, the Upper East Side's brand-new fitness playground, conflates gym genres—the chic, high-function space is at once a gym, personal training spot, and group fitness studio.

The brainchild of veteran trainer Ed Cashin and his visionary client Catherine Goodwin, it operates with the philosophy that your body responds to "movement, not machines." So imagine swinging from monkey bars and pulling weighted sleds instead of doing chest presses and lat pulldowns.

"The only place to sit down in the whole facility is up front in the lounge," says Cashin of his functional movement fun-house.
